He was a soldier in the War of 1812, he was a private under the company of Henry Lyher (Syher), in the militia, under he command of Col. Calvin Rich, enisted at Canajoharie, Montgomery County, New York State Sep 1812, for six months, again in in fall of 1813 and 1814 for three months. He received two land grants of 80 acres each, both in Commerce township oakland County, Michigan. He was one of the first land owners of Oakland County. All three land purchases were in Commerce township; first, section 34, W 1/2 NE 1/4, 80 acres, purchased on Mar 29, 1831, which was a land grant for service in the War of 1812, the second; section 26, E 1/2 NE 1/4, 80 acres, purchased on Jun 26, 1832, which also was a land grant for service in the War of 1812, the third; section 36, E 1/2 NW 1/4, 80 acres, purchased on Mar 9, 1835.
