In 1908 this was the residence of Charles Rolison. located in section 24 of Groveland Twp. on the north side of Glass Road, it appears by 1940 the house and been torn down.
Congregational Church, Pontiac, 1906. This church stood in the north east corner of E. Huron St. and N. Saginaw St., by 1912 Waites department store was built and stood for many years. On this site is the current courthouse for the City of Pontiac, which was built in the mid 1970s.
First Baptist Church, at 34 Oakland Ave, Pontiac, This building for many years has been used by the Salvation Army.
Located at 8244 Oak Hill Rd., this picture was taken abt 1907, and at that time was owned by William C. Beckman.
These two stores were located on the north side of Auburn Rd. in downtown Auburn Heights. Both of these builds were razed in mid Nov 2022
Augustus Carpenter Baldwin, born Dec 24, 1817 and died Jan 21, 1903, the son of Jonathan Baldwin and Mary Carpenter. He was married twice, to Isabella Churchill, and Flora E. Belding. He is buried in Oak HIll Cemetery, Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan

Blue Sky Drive in, located on Opdyke Rd, just south of Walton Blvd. after the drive in closed it was torn down and a Showcase Cinema was built in its place, the cinema lasted for a few years before it was closed, later the property was used for a couple of other businesses, one being a Big Buck Brewery, which also closed after a short time, today the site is occupied by GKN Driveline North America.

Mary Boice, born Dec 23, 1820, died May 31, 1898, she is the daughter of Nicholas Boice. She married on Nov 17, 1838 to Cornelius Snyder, they are both buried in Lakeville Cemetery, Lakeville, Oakland County, Michigan.

Located at 643-649 Broadway St., Davisburg, Michigan. In 1908 the store was owned by G. A. Aldrich, in 2016 the left half is a party store and the right half is an Antique store.
The Caribou Inn in Clarkston, picture was taken in the mid 1920s, before this the Inn was called the Demarest house.
This house was located on Joslyn Rd. Across from Silver Bell Rd., the picture is from abt 1907, by 1963 the house is gone and another one was built, next to where this one stood. In 1907 the house was owned by Julius Carpenter.
Pontiac Central School, a postcard from 1910, The Pontiac Union School was orginally built on this site in 1853, it was later demolished to build the larger Union school, which opened in 1893, to teach grades 1-8. With the population growing in Pontiac, an addition was build attached to the rear of the building in 1917, and another addition was built in 1957. Sometime between 2000 and 2002 the 1957 addition was torn down. in the 1980s, the old school was used for adult education. By 2021 the school had been closed for a couple of decades, and seems to have been forgotten by the City of Pontiac.

In 1908 this was the residence of Scuyler Chamberlain, located in section 31 of Oakland Twp.,He was a farmer and fruit grower, specializing in peaches.
The Chase and Baker Piano Company in downtown Holly, this postcard is from about 1909, In 1908 the Piano factory was owned by Cable Piano, sometime between 1908 and 1910, it became the Chase and Baker Piano Factory. The Grinnell's purchased the piano factory in Holly in 1913 and started producing pianos there, at that time it was the largest piano factory. On 1976 the Grinnell brand was sold to David Rose, after one year later , he had filed for bankruptcy. On Apr 6, 1981, the last of the Grinnell stores and factories closed.

The Clarkston mill, The mill was built by brothers, Nelson Clark and Jeremiah Clark in 1839, by 1872 Hirst and Stiff owned the mill, shown on the 1896 map of Clarkston, the mill was owned by John West. The 1908 Atlas of Oakland County, shows the Holcomb Brothers owned the mill. By the 1940 aerial view of Clarkston, the mill is gone, and by 1963 a building was erected on the site, which for many years is known as the Clarkston Mills Mall and most recently just as Clarkston Mills, at 20 W Washington St..
This is the second train depot to be built on the site, the first being built in 1851, burned down about 1890, and the one pictured was built as a replacement, it also burned down in 1923, when a third train station was built to replace the second one. The train station stopped being used in 1959, and since 1962 it has been used by the Clarkston Players, a local theatre group.
Clarkston Train Station, this is the third building to occupy the site as a train station, it was built in 1923, after the second station burned down, and was used until 1959, when service to the station stopped. Since 1962 it has been used by a local theatre group, The Clarkston Village Players. The station is located on the west side of White Lake Rd., Between Andersonville Rd. and Dixie Hwy.

The Deer Lake Inn, Located at 7504 Dixie Hwy., just west of White Lake Rd., the old building in the picture had been torn down and a smaller building built in its place, it is most recently known as Kruses Deer Lake Inn

The Demarest House is shown on the 1872 map of the village of Clarkston, having been built about that time, being on the corner of Washington St. and Main St., by 1896 it was known as the Clarkston House, then the Nelson House, followed by the Nelson House, and later as the Caribou Inn. It appears still on the 1940 aerial view of Clarkston. The building was damaged from a fire in 1958, the building was torn down, and the site was then used as a village parking lot.
Elizabeth Denison, She was born into slavery, and she was owned by the William Tucker family, emancipated in 1807, died Aug 7, 1866 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.She was employed by Solomon and Sarah Sibley, after their deaths, she was left 10 acres of land in Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan. After which she went to work for 30 years, for the mayor of Detroit, John Biddle. It has been said that she died at the age of 114 years, but can not be confirmed. Her land in Pontiac, was donated by her, for part of Oak Hill Cemetery, in Pontiac. She is the First Black Woman to own land in Oakland County.
Sarah Dewitt, Born May 8, 1802, died Sep 14, 1844, and is buried in Lakeville Cemetery, Lakeville, Oakland County, Michigan. She married to William Hagerman
Mary Dodder, born Jan 1828 in Sussex County, New Jersey, died Aug 2, 1896 in Addison Township, Oakland County, Michigan., daughter of Peter H. Dodder and Margaret Struble SHe married Jacob Snyder. They are buried in Lakeville Cemetery. Lakeville, Oakland County, Michigan

Fisher Body plant, located on Baldwin Rd. across from Kenneth Rd., originally build by the Fisher brothers, about 1919 they merged this plant with General Motors, This plant produced primarily bodies for Pontiacs, after body production stopped, the plant was converted to produced the Pontiac Fiero from 1983-88, The building at the top of this postcard is the Fisher Body Plant, the building in the lower part of the postcard, is Pontiac Motors. After the auto production stopped, the plant was idle for a couple of years, I was told that for a time, they were making car parts, once that production stopped, it was used for a warehouse, before it closed for good.
Fisher Body plant, in 2020, late in 2012 they began to take this plant down, by the late summer of 2013, the only part of the building that remained was the wall facing Baldwin Rd. The power plant , which can be seen in the middle, near the bottom, was blown up in the summer of 2020. I live about 5 miles, as the crow flies, from this site and could hear the explosion the day they blasted it.There are a couple of videos on Youtube you may want to check out.

General Motors Truck Plant, located off of South Blvd. about 2/3 of a mile west of Opdyke Rd., known in the area as plant 2. In its beginning, the plant produced larger trucks than what was being build at , what was known as plant 1, the old Rapid Motor Building. In time this complex would grow, adding 4 more assembly plants. In this building was built Buses and large semi trucks, The first Silver side Grayhound bus was built here, as well as the famous bus, that Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white person. Around 1993 the complex was closed and the building razed, GM build the new Center Point Operations on this site.

Center Point was built on the site of the former GM plant 2 truck and bus plant. Center Point opened around 1995 or 96. Center Point had 2 main buildings, one on the south side of South Blvd, where the old plant 2 was, and the other across the street, where the old storage lot was located. The building was closed up in 2008. Shortly after GM filed bankruptcy, the buildings were sold off, the one on the north side of South Blvd, was purchased by Hewlett Packard, which operated there until 2018, the other Center Point Building remained empty, until the whole complex was purchased by United Wholesale Mortgage, which still operates out of the buildings in 2021.

This house in 1907 was located on the north side of Kurtz Rd, in section 8 of Holly Township, about 1/8 of a mile west of Fish Lake Rd. The house sat about 300 feet back off the road, the house was taken down between 1974 and 1980. In 1907 the house was owned by John Green.
William Hagerman, born Feb 15, 1802, died Mar 19, 1883. He was married three times, first to Sarah DeWitt, second to Olive, last name unknown, and third to Elizabeth Berry. He is buried in Lakeville Cemetery, Lakeville, Oakland County, Michigan.
Located on the south side of Cooley Lake Rd, about 1/8 mile east of Stonecrest Rd. ,in 1907 the house was owned by Richard D. Hale, sometime between 1963 and 1974 the house was taken down.

Hotel Roosevelt, Pontiac, Michigan. Located at 129 N. Perry St. Today the site of the hotel is a parking lot. The hotel caught fire in 1968 and was taken down shortly after.

The residence of Horace Beach, in 1908, located in section 29 of Rose Township, on the east side of Hickory Ridge Road. The house still remains in 2022.
In 1908 this was the residence of Frank Lessiter. It was located on the west side of Baldwin Rd. in section 7 of Orion Twp., almost across from where the current fire station number 4 is located. The house was still standing in 1963, however by 1974 it had been taken down and another house sits on the site
Howland Opera House, located at 22-24 W. Pike St. Pontiac, it was later sold and turned into the Rialto movie theatre. It was located at the corner of W. Pike and Wayne St. Today, in 2021, the site is now a parking lot. The 1940 aerial shows the theater still there, however in the 1963 aerial, it is gone.

The Building on the left was a store that sold air compressors and air tools, the business has been vacant since about 2012, the building on the right has been many different gas stations over the years, it also closed about 2012 Both buildings were razed in Nov 2022.

Miracle Mile Drive In, was located behind the old Miracle Mile shopping center, on Telegraph Rd. just a little north of Square Lake Rd. . It opened in 1960 and closed in 1986, This drive in like the others was taken down, nothing has been built on the old site.

Oakland County Court House, located at 1200 Telegraph Rd., Pontiac. The main part of the courthouse was built in the early 1960s, in the mid 1990s the addition on the west end was built.. This image was taken from Google Earth in 2020.

Oakland Hills Country Club, located on W. Maple Rd about 1/4 mile east of Telegraph Rd. , It was open in 1916 by Joseph Mack and Norval Hawkins. The club house was built in 1921-22, at the cost of $650,000, and opened in Aug 1922, on Feb 17, 2022, a fire broke out, destroying most of the building.
The Oakland Motor Car Company, Edward Murphy moved his company here from the smaller one located on S. Saginaw St. in Pontiac. This plant was located at the corner of Baldwin Rd. and Oakland Ave. It was originally the Taylor Buggy Works, after Murphy purchased it, he expanded it to the buildings seen in this postcard. later William Durant purchased the company from Murphy and it became part of General Motors. Only part of the plant is still standing in 2021

John Patterson, born Oct 22, 1865 in Holly Township, Oakland County, Michigan, died May 27, 1941 in Miami Dade County, Florida. he is the son of Thomas L Patterson and Eunice Hadley. He married Ella Stanton. They are both buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan.
This house is located on the corner of E. Brown St and Old Woodward Ave. in downtown Birmingham, in 1908 the house was owned by J. Bert Peabody.

Pontiac Buggy Company token.The Pontiac Buggy Company was started by Edward Murphy, and produced horse drawn carriages, in 1907, Murphy stopped producing buggies and started the Oakland Motor car Company in 1907. In 1909, Oakland Motors was purchased by William Durant, and it became part of General Motors.
Pontiac Drive In, This drive in was located on Dixie Hwy. just east of Silver Lake Rd. The drive in open in 1949 and closed in 1990, it was demolished a couple of years later, nothing has been built on the old site.

Pontiac High School, 1909, This was first known as Grove School, later changed to Pontiac High School. The School was opened in Sep 1871, and in 1872 graduated the first class of five people. The last class graduated in the summer of 1914, the new High School opened in the fall of 1914.

Pontiac Motors, This image, I believe is from about 1960, the plant was located in Pontiac, with Montcalm Rd. to the south, Columbia Rd. to the north, Bottom of the picture, Joslyn Rd. to the west, also shown on the right middle of the picture, is the Fisher Body plant off of Baldwin Rd. across from Kenneth Rd., notice that much has been added to this plant from 1940 to 1963.
Pontiac Motors, This is what the site looks like in 2021, most of the plant was closed after the end of the 1988 model year, about 1995 the central foundry was taken down, by the year 2000, the southern part of the old plant was razed, between 2012-14, the plant along Columbia Rd. was torn down. The offices that ran along Joslyn Rd. was for many years known as CPC, Chevrolet Pontiac Canada, has been turn into General Motors Global Propulsion Systems.

Pontiac Spring Company, later became the Hess Pontiac Spring Company, postcard form about 1905. The company was located on Brush St. between Bagley St and Linfere St. , the building was torn down about 2009, still in 2021 it is an empty lot.
The church in the background was the congregational church, located on the corner of Huron St. and Saginaw St. which later was torn down, the current Pontiac City courthouse occupies the site. The building on the left of the image later became the location of the S. S. Kresge, which most recently is part of Mclaren Hospital.
Now called Oakland County International Airport, at the corner of Airport Rd and Highland Rd (M59), it was once called Barber Field brfore it was sold off and the name changed to Pontiac Airport, and later changed to Oakland Pontiac Airport, before being what it is called today. Just a quick note, that is Highland Rd at the top of the picture.

The first Pontiac General Hospital, This hospital was located behind the current hospital, to the west, on Huron St., This postcard is from 1907.
Build in 1913-1914, was built to replace the old Grove School, which could no longer hold the number of students coming to the school, graduated the first class in 1915, and was used until the 1960s, when it was replaced by Pontiac Central High School, which closed about 2012.

Red Barn Restaurant. This was a hamburger joint, much like McDonalds. I only knew of two Red Barns in the Pontiac area, one at the corner of Elizabeth Lake Rd. and Telegraph, which the building has been taken down and it became a T-Mobile store, the other was on Baldwin Rd. a little north of Montcalm Rd., across from Merrimac Rd., after Red Barn closed it changed into The Farm, only stayed open for a couple of years, it is now called the First Church of Worship-Praise.

Solomon Sibley, born Oct 7, 1769 at Sutton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, died Apr 4, 1846 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. The son of Reuben and Ruth Sibley. He married Sarah Sproat.
In 1907 this house was owned by Cassius Silman, the house as located on the east side of Woodward Ave, between 8 and 9 mile Roads, it appears that by 1940 the house was gone and replaced by a business..

Jacob Snyder born Sep 18, 1820 in Warren County, New Jersey, died May 30, 1900 in Oakland County, Michigan, at the age of 79 years. He is the son of Dennes Snyder and Sally Hulick. He married Elizabeth Dodder. They are both buried in Lakeville Cemetery, Lakeville, Oakland County, Michigan

The South Lyon Hotel, in the north west corner of Whipple St. and N. Lafayette St.. The hotel was first constructed about 1867 and was called the Commerical House, This image was from about 1900. For may years the old hotel was used only as a resturant, in 1977 a fire broke out and damaged the building. The building was repaired and used as a bar-resturant. Again in Jun 2016 the old hotel caught fire, destroying most fo the building, leaving only the outside walls. In the fall of 2016 the hotel was demolished. It is rumored that the hotel was haunted, that on the orginal site was an old graveyard that was relocated to build the hotel, but that cannot be comfirmed.

The Stout Memorial Building, was erected for the ladies Library Association after the death of Byron G. Stout, which he left money in will to have a library built. Currently the building is used by Pontiac Creative Arts Center, and is located at the corner of williams St and W Lawrence St.

Waterford Drive In, This drive in was located at the corner of Williams Lake Rd. and Airport Rd. It opened about 1948 and closed in 1988 or 89, after it closed, the building were taken down, and like most of the other old drive ins, nothing has been built on the site. The image is from a 1980 aerial of the area.
