Byron was born in Richmond, New York, in 1829, and came with his parents , Jesse Lee and Olivia P. Stout, in 1831 to Troy, Oakland County, Michigan. he attened the county district school and later Albion Seminary, and graduated from Michigan univeristy as Ann Arbor in the class of 1851. He was principal of the Pontiac Union School from 1852 to 1854 and was elected to the legislature in the latter year. He was re-elected and became Speaker of the House during the session of 1856-57. He engaged in banking business in Pontiac in 1859, anr the following year was elected to the State Senate. Subsequently he was a Democratic candidate for Governor and also for the United States Senate. He was a member of the 52nd Congress, being away from the 6th district of Michigan in 1890. His family all passed away before him, and he died Jun 19, 1896, at his home in Pontiac. By will he provided for the erection of a building for the Ladies Library Association of Pontiac.
