He went to Holly, Oakland County, michigan in 1842 and engaged in farming, from there me removed to Groveland Twp., Oakland County, Michigan, for 15 years. From 1858 to 1864 he was in the mercantile business with his brother ORen, in Flint Michigan, and from 1864 to 1870 was raising sheep in Grand Blanc, Genesee County, Michigan. In the latter year he returned to Holly, Michigan, where he engaged in trade as D. H. Stone and Co., was president of the Citizens Fire Insurance Co., and of the Merchant National Bank.
