He came to Michigan in 1835 with his family of five children. His siblings William, Lavina, and Abigail also came to Michigan at the same time. He became sick from over exposure when the Waterford Exchange Hotel burned down on Dec 31, 1890, he died months later as a result of his injuries. HIs mother, Elizabeth Townsend, is the daughter of John Townsend (1743-1821) and Jemima Travis (1746-1832), John Townsend served as a PVT in the Dutchess County NY Militia, during the Revolutionary War.
