Daniel Barber is the son of Daniel Barber and Charity Rathbone, he was born Jul 2, 1772 in Exeter, Washington County, Rhode Island and died Feb 14, 1830. Daniel married Feb 19, 1793 to Abigail Lewis, the daughtr of James Lewis and Thankful Barber, she was born Sep 19, 1776 in Rhode Island, died Mar 8, 1860 in Oxford, Oakland County, Michigan. Abigail is buried in North Oxford Cemetery, Oxford township, Oakland County, Michigan. Daniel and his family relocated moved to Sempronius, Cayuga County, New York and later removing to Spafford, Onondaga County, New York, before coming to Michigan. Daniel's son Daniel is one of the first land owners in Oakland County, Michigan, purchasing land in Oxford township, Oakland County, in section 11, the W 1/2 SE 1/4, on May 27, 1836, purchasing a total of 80 acres.This land is now located in the northeast corner of N. Oxford Rd. and Gardner Rd. It is not know where Daniel Barber Sr. is buried, one family story states that Daniel came to Oakland County purchased land, returned to New York for his family, and died there before he could return to Michigan, the other story is that he returned to Michigan with his family, and died shortly after. There is an unmarked grave in North Oxford Cemetery next to his wife Abigail, however it is unknown who is there.
