Fire at Mortimer Osman's

Mortimer D. OSmun, who resides on the old Judson premises, in Waterford township, lost the greater part of his residence by fire last Sunday morning. It was about 8 o'clock when the smoke and flames were discovered issuing from the roof, near the chimney. All efforts to extinguish the fire were in vain, and the inmates, and such neighbors who were within reach, or so learned of the danger, proceeded with vigor to save such of the contents as was possible. The building, which was of brick, soon burned to the ground, the wing and kitchen, being saved by almost super-human efforts. A large part of the goods on the lower floor, including the piano, were saved, but nearly everything above was lost. Nothing was saved from the hundreds of bushels of fruits and vegetables in the spacious cellar. The loss to Mr. Osmun is in the neighborhood of $4,000, with $2,500 insurance, in the Agricultural Insurance Company of Watertown, N. Y. C. E. Adams agent. The fire i supposed to have occurred from a spark, the chimney having burned out the day previous.
