Stiff Sentence for Glenn Davis

From 18 months to three years at Jackson prison was the sentence imposed late yesterday afternoon upon Glenn Davis by the circuit court for wife desertion. Davis was bound over to the circuit court in Justice North's court yesterday morning and when taken into the circuit court in the afternoon for arraignment pleaded guilty and was sentenced at once. Davis is the young husband of Mrs. Amy Pratt Davis, whom he deserted with three children last March and went west. He located in Olympia, Wash., and from letters written by him to his wife appears to have led a gay life with other women. Davis was arrested by Olympia officers and held pending the arrival of Sheriff Greer. Davis was arrested on a complaint based upon a new law recently placed into effect which provides in cases of conviction for wife desertion that the state pay the wife $1.50 a week toward her support and 50 cents a week for each minor child. Mrs. Davis will receive from the state $3 a week which is deducted from the earnings of her husband while at Jackson. Four letters written by Davis to his wife led to his arrest in Olympia. When asked if there was anything he cared to say before sentence was passed Davis told the court he would rather go to hell than have to live with his wife again. Further than that he had nothing to say. Davis married five years ago when his wife was but 17 years old and he 18. They have three children, the youngest of whom the father had never seen until he was brought back from the west.
