Youth Admits Hit and Run Killing
Pontiac, Mich - Jan 2 (AP), Two youths were jailed on open charges Wednesday in the New Year's Eve deaths of teen-aged Barbara Holloway and Jessie Anastos. A volunteered story from Anthony Redmond, 20 year old truck driver, apparently had solved the mystery surrounding the girls' fate. Barbara, 17, daughter of a General Motors executive, and Jessie, one of five fatherless children in a family here, were killed when hit by a car at midnight Monday. In the background were stories of teen-age drinking at a series of parties heralding the new year. Barbara nd Jessie had left one party to hitchhike to another. A car struck and killed them on the outskirts of Royal Oak. Their bodies were found in a snow bank. Worried and conscience stricken, young Redmond came to the Royal Oak police station Tuesday night to say he was the driver of the car. Fred Ziem, assistant Oakland County prosecutor, said Redmond told of having a couple of beer, maybe three, but not more than four, beforehand. He told of going on a round of other parties. Accompanying him to the police station were two 15 year old girls and Donald Cushing, 17, a Royal Oak High School student. All were in the car hen the accident occured.
