Four Drowned in Michigan Lakes

Detroit, July 31.—Four persons were drowned in Michigan lakes Sunday, according to reports received in Detroit Sunday.A pet dog led Charles Currier, 30, of Detroit, to his death in Commerce Lake, near Pontiac. Currier was playing with the dog in the water, and the animal swam farther and farther from shore. Currier, attempting to follow the animal, stepped into a deep hole and was drowned. His brother, also of Detroit, was with him but was unable to reach him in time to save him. Burtol Elwell, Detroit, was drowned in White Lake, 12 miles from Pontiac, when a boat upset. A companion was rescued by men from shore who rowed out when they saw the pair plunge into the water, but Elwell sank. He was a Grand Trunk railway employee, and is survived by a wife and two children. Edward Elbring, 22, of Pigeon, Mich., was seized with cramps and sank to his death in 10 feet of water at Long Lake, near Fenton. Elbring was attending a picnic given by Flint Crotto. Guests of the hotel and other members of the picnic party saw him sink. His body was recovered after a half hour's search.Sheriff's officers were notified of the drowning of an unidentified man in Deer Lake, Oakland county.
