Honor Among Thieves
W. R. Vliet our village wagon maker has been farming some this summer on a small scale, and among his other ventures in the produce line, he had a large piece of potatoes on the John G Owen Farm, which commenced to dig last week. It did not prove to be an extra large crop, however, but they were very nice and looked very tempting as they laid in heaps around the field. Mr. Vliet thought he would bring a couple of bags home for present consumption and took two bags to the field with him for that purpose. He filled one of the bags and laid the empty one on top of it. That night some covetous mortal filled the empty bag from the heap of potatoes and silently hide himself away. Conscience of some other unknown thing prompted the purloiner of other peoples goods to return and place the empty bag just where he found it like a little man. Mr. Vliet wishes to thank the person for so promptly returning what he could not eat, i. e. the bag.
